Many of you are probably familiar with the Nest Thermostat. I wanted one ever since it was released in 2011 but didn’t get around to ordering until a week ago. What surprised me most about it was how easy it was to install. It took me no more than 5 minutes. What didn’t surprise me was how much I am enjoying it. It’d be perfect for those of you that own a lake home. Imagine heading west on I-94 to Alexandria on a hot summer day and being able to turn on your air conditioner before you arrive. Ofcourse there were programmable thermostats and remote systems available prior to the creation of Nest but the Nest trounces them just as the iPod did to other portable music devices. The user interface is brilliant in its simplicity.
Nest was founded by Tony Fadell. Tony led the team that created the first 18 generations of the iPad and the first 3 of the iPhone. The first time you have the Nest in your hand it is evident. It is a work of art and is attractive on a wall. What surprised me, in a good way, most was the weight and how solid it is. I am very pleased with it and have never had so much fun looking at the temperature inside my home. Plus, I am positive it is going to save me money and pay for itself.
