In this video you’ll take a trip north on Alexandria’s Douglas Street from 10th Avenue to 6th Avenue and then climb to the top of Douglas County Court House. This area is known as the Silk Stocking District (it was said that the women that used to live in the homes in the early 1900’s could afford silk stocking) and has many historic homes. Early in the video you will briefly see First Lutheran Church on the left and Calvary Lutheran to the north at the end of the trip down Douglas Street.
Douglas Street in Alexandria is very appealing for reasons in addition to the classic homes. The sidewalks are wide, the yards well maintained, the boulevards are full of large, mature trees and there is shopping, entertainment, schools, museums, a library and parks within walking distance. It is a great place to live and I can speak from experience as it is the street I grew up on.
