I have been fortunate to have the only summers I have missed at the lake be the first two of my life. When I was born, my family lived in California as my dad was employed by 3M and at the age of two we headed to Alexandria and he began working at 3M in Alexandria. We first lived year round at Lake Brophy and then when I was first grade, we moved to a home on Douglas Street on the west side of Alexandria. During the summer, we’d move to a cottage on Le Homme Dieu that my parents purchased. Lake life in the form of a second home has been what I have known ever since. Except for a home on the west side of Lake Carlos I bought in the mid-90’s, my summers have been at cottages (Le Homme Dieu, Carlos and Darling) without a garage (we did have a carport at Lake Le Homme Dieu but it wasn’t used for cars and was primarily my domain for me firing pucks at targets in preparation for the upcoming hockey season). So to me, a garage has always been a luxury at the lake. It is different if it is your primary residence of course as you’d have to have taken a few pucks to the head to spend a year in Minnesota without a garage. I have created a saved search showing all lake homes without garages in Douglas County that are for sale. Note that the highest priced property is under $400,000 (as of July 28, 2015). What do you think? Luxury or necessity?
Here they are…
