Yesterday was a day of repairs for me. My first visit was to Minneapolis Audi to pick up my vehicle as I blew a tire last week and had new Pirellis installed. Cha-ching. Next, it was off to the Apple Store at Mall of America. While walking my dog a few weeks ago I had a leash in my right hand and an iPhone 6 Plus in my left. While trying to correct an unwanted screen rotation I fumbled. I am not a fan of cases and a direct hit on the sidewalk delivered the dreaded spider web effect to my screen. Cha-ching.
Apple will put on a new screen for $129 ($109 for a 6) so I booked a Genius Bar appointment. I had plenty of time to peruse the store as the expected time was 90 minutes. It ended up taking over 2 hours and at times felt like I was on airplane listening to a pilot as I would be told “10-15 for minutes, the phone is in calibration” and then 15 minutes later would be told the very same thing. Everyone at the Apple Store is very nice and helpful so it isn’t too bad of a place to wait.
While waiting I checked out a keyless entry product for your home I had read about on a tech site. It is made by August and can be purchased at Apple Stores or directly from August. I am a fan of home automation and have a Nest at my home so this interested me. If you have a newer vehicle and can unlock your door without using a key, you will understand August. Instead of a key fob needing to be in your pocket, you just have to have your phone on you. You also can remotely unlock for someone. For example, if you were away and wanted to let in someone so they could take your dog for walk, simply open the August app and voila.
This may seem silly but I sincerely believe that if you are in the process of trying to sell a home, consider installing a Nest (it’s easy, I did it myself) or an August. Not only are the features attractive but both are physically attractive too. In the Alexandria real estate market, they will make your home’s stand out to potential buyers. And while they are easy to install, most people like having things completed and not have to mess with installation.
If you are interested in an August Smart Lock, the promo code AUGUST20 will save you $20 with your next purchase if you by it the the August store at august.com.
