Lake Minnewashta in Carver County has some unwanted visitors. Zebra Mussels.
But, there is some good news coming from Minnewashta and a joint partnership of the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, Carver County and the Lake Minnewashta Preservation Association. They worked in coordination with Minnesota’s Department of Natural Resources. A treatment that was applied to Minnewashta’s Little Minnie Bay. The treatment was a copper-based product called EarthTecQZ and it has been reported that it looks like it was a success. That is all the news I have found for now but it is good news indeed. Zebra mussels get a lot of attention in the press but the reality is that only two percent of Minnesota lakes have them. Positive news about a solution to getting that percentage closer to zero is a nice way to end the week.
