Holding a license in real estate in Minnesota and practicing full-time as a real estate broker can deliver some bizarre encounters. Fortunately, they are once or twice a year occurrences. Unfortunately, I had one within the past 48 hours. Friday morning I received a voicemail message from someone (let’s call him ‘Burt’…not his real name) wanting to talk about ‘realty’ in Alexandria. That reference to ‘realty’ versus ‘real estate’ was my first clue I had someone different. I returned Burt’s call and he told me that the agent he worked with to buy a lake lot wasn’t returning his calls. Clue number two. Burt said that he didn’t like the lake this lot is at because it is ‘green’ (clue number three) and found a lake lot closer to his home that he is interested in. Long story short. I took time out of my schedule earlier today to visit and walk the lot, research sales and then provide feedback to Burt on pricing if he wanted to sell this year, as he led me to believe. What followed was borderline illiterate emails and expletives. Not a enjoyable way to end the day especially since I was trying to help him. I didn’t have appointments in the morning and instead of enjoying time lakeside, I was checking out Burt’s lot. Burt didn’t like the news I delivered and wanted to take his ball and go home but not before he sent schoolyard remarks to me. My favorite was that he didn’t value you my opinion on anything, even on “toilet paper prices”. Burt also threatened to share his experience with me online. It was a rare encounter and fortunately 99.99% of the people I encounter are polar opposites of Burt. What was most frustrating was that not only did I give him my time, I sincerely wanted to help him and even offered a suggestion that likely wouldn’t have resulted in a dollar earned for my brokerage.
Rather than end the week on a Burt (my apologies to anyone named ‘Burt’…it is a good name but for reference purposes it worked in this post) note, I’d like to end with a tour of the south end of Lake Le Homme Dieu. I was at one of our office listings on South Le Homme Dieu Drive to shoot some aerial video and while there also captured video showing some of the areas of the south end of Lake Le Homme Dieu.
