ABOUT LAKE CARLOS
Lake Carlos is 2,605 acres and is the largest lake in Alexandria’s Chain of Lakes. The average water clarity is 15.3 feet. Nice. With a maximum depth of 163 feet, it is also one of the deepest lakes in Minnesota. The northeast corner of the lake has an outlet to the Long Prairie River. At the southwest corner of Lake Carlos is a channel to Lake Darling and there is a channel to Lake Le Homme Dieu at the southeast end. At the north end of the lake is beautiful Lake Carlos State Park. You can buy an annual or day pass to the park if you drive to it but aren’t required to purchase a pass if you enter by foot or bike. The first lake home I purchased was on County Road 11 (west side) and a nice bike ride is to head east on Mount Carmel Drive and then turn north into the park. A trail takes you through the park and it is possible to exit onto County Road 38 and pass by the properties on the east side of Lake Carlos.
Lake Carlos is in Douglas County and its lake classification is General Development.
