ABOUT LAKE OSAKIS
Lake Osakis is a large lake, 6,389 acres, about a 15 minute drive east of Alexandria. Osakis is an Ojibwe name meaning “place of the Sauk”. The DNR reports water clarity of 3.2 feet and a maximum depth of 73 feet.
At the south end of the lake is the city of Osakis. The Central Lakes Trail passes through Osakis and connects with the Lake Wobegon Trail. Each June on Lake Osakis anglers participate in the Lions Walleye Fishing Tournament. Osakis is also home to the first legal whiskey distillery. Panther Distillery is located in downtown Osakis on Pike Street and tours are available daily. Be sure not to miss Tip Top Dairy Bar in downtown Osakis.
Most of Lake Osakis is in Todd County but some properties are in Douglas County. Its lake classification is General Development.
